In reply to Beth. I can only say that I used to work in Alberta and the process for international SLPs seemed a little easier but that was a few years ago. Most do ask for syllabus from classes taken though.

In reply to Anya. Yes and no. There are early intervention services mainly through the different health regions and some child development centres. BC has been talking and piloting changes on how to provide services particularly early years.

Hi,
I’m an SLP with close to 15 years of experience. I attempted to get my BC license a couple years ago, but gave up after jumping through a ton of hoops and then I was asked for an undergraduate syllabus for a course I took nearly 20 years ago. I’m wondering if there are any providences that are easier to get licensing in that I could then transfer to BC?

Thanks for this helpful article! Does Canada, BC in particular, have the equivalent of early intervention/early childhood services? I’m a trilingual (Spanish/French/English) US based SLP working with 0-5 population in homes and preschools and would like to do something similar in Canada if it exists. Thanks!

I’m not sure when they’ll open it back up or why they are not currently accepting applications. My best recommendation would be to contact SAC directly and they may be able to tell you more. Good luck!

Hi,
I am an experienced SLP in the US and would like to move to Canada and continue working as an SLP. On the SAC website, it states the Mutual Recognition Agreements are currently unavailable. Do you know when and if they will be starting that back up? Thanks!

Hi,

The recognition form is one of the first steps. The biggest hurdle you are going to have is to get your provincial license. BC college has gone through changes in last couple of months. You should be able to find info https://chcpbc.org/ As for work in BC, I’m in a rural setting and it seems like we’re always looking for SLPs. Go to the makeafuture.ca and therapybc.ca That should show you all/most the job postings for school jobs and other SLP positions in BC. Also, BC can be very expensive so I would look into that as well. Good luck!

Hello,

I came across your site while researching immigration to Canada as an American SLP. I currently have my CCCs and have been an SLP for almost 20 years, with the bulk of my experience being a school-based SLP. I am in the very beginning stages of my research. I came across the SAC Mutual Recognition application form. Is that the first step? Also, do you know if there is a demand for school-based SLPs in the British Columbia area? I hear mixed information. Many say there is a demand in the less populated areas, but not the bigger cities. Any tips you can provide is much appreciated. 🙂
